What is ABSOLUTE Yoga?

ABSOLUTE Yoga is a contemporary interpretation of Classical Hatha Yoga, a practice that goes back 5000 years. ABSOLUTE Yoga is based on a profound knowledge of human nature. Our classes focus on:

Asana - physical postures to improve the health and well-being of the body and to prepare the student for breathing practices.

Pranayama -- breathing practices link the body and mind and prepare the student for the experience of inner peace and concentration.

For a positive experience most people begin in a Level 1 or 1 & 2 class unless they require or by nature like a more nurturing/ therapeutic class. For that experience, the Gentle Yoga or Back & Feet Care classes may be more appropriate. We recommend that all students continually share questions, concerns and specific needs with their Yoga Teacher.

I am a happy healthy person. What can ABSOLUTE Yoga do for me?

The potential to feel better never ends because there are ever-deepening levels of contentment and health. We have found that through studying Yoga people begin to view the world in a different way. Positive aspects of living flourish and a more focused, relaxed, and concentrated mind evolves naturally.

I am completely stressed out. How can ABSOLUTE Yoga help me de-stress?

Physical and emotional tension manifests in the body as aches and pains, lack of energy, and negative emotions. Physical postures help to ease away tensions and balance the muscular system to bring more poise and relaxation. Breathing practices bring on positive feelings and a feeling of inner peace. Concentration practices help us to see our lives and possibilities more clearly.

How can ABSOLUTE Yoga improve my health?

The physical postures sequentially bring improved range of motion, strength, and stability to the body and mind. The nervous system learns to understand movement in a variety of settings which prepare us to adapt better to the world around us. Asana, in combination with breathing and concentration practices, can lead to improved intellectual functioning, encourage positive feelings about our bodies, and assist us to make positive changes in our lives.

I have chronic pain (back pain, fibromyalgia, chronic illness, etc.). Can I still take ABSOLUTE Yoga?

In our ABSOLUTE Yoga Gentle Yoga class, the asana and pranayama practices are adapted to be therapeutic in nature. These practices can stand on their own or complement other types of therapy. Developing concentration can bring awareness of unconscious patterns which, once broken, help us create new healthier ways of moving in the world.
